Aging is unavoidable.
Aging beautifully, gracefully and healthily however, is an art. We can help to make this happen.
MESOTHERAPY / CECCARELLI
FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS (LIPOLYSIS)
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy was developed in France in 1952 by Dr Michel Pistor, originally for treatment of sport injuries, vascular problems and infectious diseases. In aesthetic medicine mesotherapy belongs to a group of minimally invasive procedures in which multiple small injections are given into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) to promote skin rejuvenation, loss of fatty tissue as well as to treat cellulite and hair loss.
For specific indications, specific medications are chosen, usually pharmaceuticals, vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, growth factors and peptides. For fat reductions, Phosphatidylcholine, Deoxycholate, as well as Carnitine, Caffeine and Aminophylline are used
How does mesotherapy work?
During mesotherapy active ingredients are delivered into and under the skin structures where they act directly to improve the skin appearance, or to stimulate lipolysis (fat loss). An Italian professor, Maurizio Ceccarelli, developed a formula which contains vitamin C and iron. The lipolytic action of Ceccarelli solution is achieved by inducing Fenton’s reaction where vitamin C acts as a pro-oxidant. Mesotherapy and lipolysis by injection can be applied on the face, neck as well as on parts of the body like the abdomen, thighs and upper arms.
What results can I expect after mesotherapy?
This depends on the indication and the type of treatment chosen. Generally the aim of the treatment is to improve the skin quality, reinvigorating hair follicles and reducing fat tissue. After a series of treatments one can expect improvement in the skin texture and tone, reduction of wrinkles and expression lines, pigmentation, scars and general improvement in quality of the skin. Regarding fat reduction, one can achieve reductions of fat in certain areas of the body, for example: beneath the chin, back of arms, upper thighs, lower abdomen and love handles. Treated hair might become thicker and healthier.
Results are best achieved after a course of 6-8 treatments over several weeks.
How long will the results last?
This depends on many factors and type of treatment. In terms of fat reduction the patient might achieve satisfying results but if they return to an unhealthy life-style, the fat may be replaced over time. For facial rejuvenation, mesotherapy offers a natural and marked improvement. Often patients choose mesotherapy as part of their regular regime. Treatment of cellulite is always a very challenging one as the results depend on many factors, from personal physiology to life style and regular maintenance.
Are there any special preparation before the treatment?
No. There are no special preparations needed. The patient does not need to be fasting. Patients taking Aspirin, anti-coagulants (Warfarin), non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (diclofenac, ibuprofen etc) in order to minimalize bruising and only after consultation with their physician, may consider to stop taking them for a week prior the treatment. For the same reason it is also recommended to stop taking supplements like Omega 3, garlic and Vitamin E.
How long is the treatment?
This depends on the problem and the areas requiring treatment. Usually the procedure does not take longer than 60 minutes.
Is there any anesthesia needed?
No, no anesthesia is needed; the injections are performed with a very fine needle therefore they are not very painful. In some cases a topical anesthetic cream (numbing) can be used prior the treatment.
What are the potential side effects and complications during and after the treatment?
Possible risks and side effects include: bruising, bleeding, swelling, discomfort, burning sensations, skin discolouration, blisters, ulceration, lumpiness, hardness, nodule formation at the injection sites as well as infection, allergic reactions, dizziness and nausea. Most of these side effects are temporary.
What are the contraindications for mesotherapy?
Contraindications include: bleeding disorder, using anticoagulants, dyslipidaemia, pregnancy, breast breastfeeding, diabetes mellitus, compromised immune system including AIDS, stroke, recent cancer, blood clots, liver disease, serious kidney disease, active skin infection - bacterial or viral as well as known allergy to any ingredient used during mesotherapy procedure.
What are the aftercare instructions?
After skin rejuvenation with mesotherapy one may apply ice packs to reduce the swelling, avoid scrubbing the treated area for at least 24h, makeup can be applied after 24h, one must not wash the skin directly after the procedure for 5 hours and use only a gentle face wash. Avoidance of direct intense heat, strenuous exercises and sauna for minimum of 48 hours, avoidance of sun and applying sun screen protection (SPF 50 plus) for at least 1 month after the therapy is imperative.
Following mesotherapy for scalp, hair can be washed after 24h. From the next morning, regular micro needling should be performed.
After lipolysis some patients may experience palpable lumps or unevenness, it might be helpful to gently massage the area. For the first 2-3 days it is not recommended to consume alcohol and to perform vigorous exercises.
